New Resource: A Netted Grove Trial – Protecting Hawaiʻi's Coconuts from Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB-G)

Ashley Hogue • July 4, 2026

A free guide from Hawai'i Farmers Union

for on-farm trials to assist

Hawai’i’s Commercial and Subsistence Farmers.

This guide was developed through the Hawaiʻi Farmers Union (HFU) North Shore chapter and produced with funds

from the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture (HDOA).

Hawaiʻi Farmers Union is pleased to share this free guide documenting an on-farm demonstration of a netted dwarf coconut grove designed to reduce Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB-G) damage using physical exclusion methods. Developed with support from the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture, this guide provides step-by-step construction details, recommended materials, management practices, lessons learned, and practical recommendations for commercial and subsistence growers interested in protecting coconut trees while minimizing reliance on chemical controls.

Whether you're establishing a new coconut grove or exploring integrated pest management strategies, we hope this guide serves as a valuable resource for Hawaiʻi's farming community.
